Features and Condition of the Yukata | New Kimono
This is an Arimatsu Shibori yukata that can be worn to festivals, summer sightseeing spots, and more.
“Arimatsu Narumi Shibori” has been made in the Arimatsu-Narumi district of Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, since the Edo period.
Shibori dyeing can create a variety of patterns depending on how the fabric is tied, sewn, and folded.
There are said to be over 100 types of tying techniques, and about 70 types are still passed down as traditional skills today.
This diverse range of patterns is one of the charms of Arimatsu Shibori.
This yukata features a large checkered pattern created by dyeing, with one part in a slightly bluish red with geometric shibori patterns, and the other part in white with faint green kanoko shibori.
The overall impression at first glance is red, but it has a slightly rosy tone, giving it a sophisticated look.
For a stylish obi pairing, how about turquoise blue?
Of course, cool colors like navy or light blue would create a clean look, and pink, orange, or red tones would make for a lovely, cute coordination.
Another charm of shibori yukata is that they can also be worn as daytime kimonos by adding a nagajuban (undergarment) and tabi (socks).
During the hot summer months, please wear it with items that help keep you cool, such as a usotsuki juban (mock juban) or lace tabi.
