Tomesode are kimono worn for formal occasions, such as weddings. They are characterized by patterns (eba-moyo) concentrated around the hem, and consist of two types: Kurotomesode (black) and Irotomesode (colored).

Differences Between Kurotomesode and Irotomesode

Kurotomesode: The most formal attire for married women, featuring hem patterns on a black background. They are adorned with five family crests and are worn at weddings by the mothers of the bride and groom or close relatives.
Irotomesode: Tomesode with hem patterns on a background other than black. They can be worn by both married and unmarried women, and their level of formality varies depending on the number of family crests.
