●About kimono sizes
This page explains the basic way to measure kimono sizes and introduces our size chart, which ranges from XS to 3XL. We've explained the key points for Mitake (body length), Yuki (sleeve length from center back to wrist), and Mihaba (body width) in an easy-to-understand way, even for those choosing a kimono for the first time.

A. Yuki (sleeve length from center back to wrist) B. Mitake (body length) C. Maehaba (front width) D. Ushirohaba (back width) E. Sodhaba (sleeve width) F. Sodetake (sleeve drop)
About Mitake (body length)

For women, a Mitake (body length) that matches your height is best.
For women's kimonos, a Mitake (body length) that matches your height is ideal. It is generally considered that a size within ±5cm of your height can be worn comfortably. The acceptable range can be extended depending on how the kimono is worn.
For men, a Mitake (body length) of "height - 25cm" is best.
For men's kimonos, a Mitake (body length) of approximately 25cm less than your height is ideal. Unlike women's kimonos, men's kimonos are worn without making an "ohashori" (tuck at the waist), so please use this calculation method as a basis when searching for a size.
About Yuki (sleeve length from center back to wrist)

"Yuki" refers to the length from the base of the neck to the wrist bone.
Generally, for formal kimonos like "homongi" or "tomesode," it's considered elegant to have the Yuki length long enough to cover the wrists. For casual kimonos like "komon" or "tsumugi," a slightly shorter Yuki makes it easier to move and prevents the cuffs from getting dirty.
An approximate allowance of ±2cm from your own Yuki measurement is generally acceptable.
About Mihaba (body width)

"Mihaba" is the sum of the front width and the back width. To determine your body width, refer to the following formula:
Hip size ≈ Front width + (Back width × 2) + 13cm
Example: If the front width is 24cm and the back width is 28cm → 24 + (28×2) + 13 = 93cm → Perfect for someone with a hip size of 93cm.
An allowance of ±10cm is generally acceptable, meaning kimonos offer more flexibility in sizing than Western clothing.
