Obi

Fukuro Obi List | From Formal to Casual

The fukuro obi is named after its construction, as it is made by sewing two pieces of fabric, the outer and inner, together to form a bag-like shape.
It is known as an obi suitable for formal wear and is used with tomesode, houmongi, furisode, etc.

Depending on how the pattern is arranged, it is divided into the following three types:

  • Zen-tsu-gara (pattern covers the entire obi)
  • Roku-tsu-gara (no pattern on the part wrapped around the torso)
  • San-tsu-gara (pattern only on the taiko knot and the front of the torso part)

Depending on the pattern arrangement, weave, and material, it can also be paired with semi-formal and casual kimonos, making it suitable for a wide range of TPOs.
