This is a bolt of Awa Shijira fabric, an intangible cultural property of Tokushima Prefecture. The material is 100% cotton.
A solid dark brown (very dark brown) (see the Definitive Japanese Color Dictionary).
If you look closely, you'll see that it combines black, brown, and beige threads, so it's not a plain, plain design.
*There is some yellowing on the ears, but this will not be visible once the item is tailored, so it is rated as an S-rank item.
Awa Shijira weave is a fabric characterized by its embossed texture, and has a similar feel to the seersucker fabric used in clothing.
It has an uneven surface, does not stick to the skin, and is light and breathable, making it a popular summer kimono.
It basically falls into the category of summer kimono, but since it is not see-through, it can also be worn as a single-layer kimono, and it is also recommended to wear it as a yukata without an undergarment during the height of summer.
It can be worn for a long period of time and can be cared for by hand washing just like cotton kimonos, or by putting it in a laundry net and washing it on hand wash mode, so it's sure to become a very popular everyday kimono!
When wearing it as a yukata, it should be paired with a half-width obi or heko obi. When wearing it as a kimono, we also recommend pairing it with a half-width obi or a Nagoya obi with a point pattern.
This is an untailored bolt of cloth, so it is in excellent condition and can be reused.
