What kind of collar do you prefer?

Will the choice of collar stiffener change the way your garment looks?

Hello, I'm Yukiwa!

Do you have a favorite collar?

You may be wondering, "What are your preferences for collar stiffeners?!"

I hope today's article will be helpful to you!

Check out the different collar stiffener shapes and thicknesses!

First of all, what shape is the collar stiffener you have?

Is it straight with semicircular sides? Gently curved with gently curved sides as well? Thin or thick?

My favorite type of collar stays are these.

Comparison photo of boat-bottom collar stays (thick and thin)

There is a thick one (top) with a gentle curve (boat-shaped) and a thin one (bottom).

When you line them up, the difference in length is obvious!

Recommended collars for different kimono occasions

On days when you're wearing a formal kimono and want the collar to be neat and tidy, a thick collar stiffener is recommended .

On days when you want a comfortable yukata but don't want the collar to be too loose, use a thin collar stiffener .

On days when I want to wear casual kimonos like tsumugi or komon, I choose depending on my mood that day.

How to properly set the collar

Where to put the collar stays? Pay attention to the direction too.

The collar stiffener should be placed on the inside of the half-collar (closest to the skin).

The straight collar stiffener comes with the Japanese half-collar.

If the half collar is attached securely, it will be enough to stay in place.

Useful tips for when your collar stays are out of place

If it still doesn't shift, say "Help! Safety pin!!" (Help, did you read it like Anpanman??)

Secure the ends with safety pins to prevent slipping.

If you use the same collar stiffener every time, you can just sew it lightly like the red line.

How do you fix and care for your collar stiffener?

If you thought, "If I sew the half-collar, I won't be able to wash it," you're in luck ♡

I will also show you how to take care of it later.

By the way, I secure the right collar with a safety pin and the left collar with stitches .

Both the kimono and undergarment are right-front, so I think pinning the right side will keep them from getting damaged.
