Article: What to wear underneath a yukata?

What to wear underneath a yukata?

How do you choose your yukata innerwear?

Hello, I'm Yukiwa!

We can hear the footsteps of summer slowly approaching, and it's finally yukata season!

What is the correct thing to wear under a yukata?

What do you wear underneath when wearing a yukata?

If you are used to wearing traditional Japanese clothing, you may think, "After all, it's a traditional Japanese inner wear."

If you normally only wear yukata, you might feel that your regular underwear is enough.

My go-to outfit is...a cupped camisole and leggings!

I usually wear kimonos, but on days when I wear yukata I like to relax a bit (laughs).

My go-to innerwear is a cupped camisole and knee-length leggings !

Innerwear precautions

A camisole like this is ideal. But be careful not to show your innerwear from the collar !

A secret trick that can also be used for correction

If you have a camisole with elastic under it, you can tuck a hand towel folded into a triangle inside to help with shaping and absorbing sweat.

When choosing the color of your innerwear, be careful of transparency!

Definitely recommend beige !

Dark colors such as black and navy blue are also OK, but you need to be careful when wearing a white yukata .

It's a good idea to choose a color close to your skin tone or the classic white color for Japanese clothing innerwear.

Men's yukata innerwear

For men, we recommend a T-shirt with a deep V-neck . Avoid crew necks as they are easily visible.

Many people choose to wear nothing underneath, but it's a good idea to wear leggings or shorts .

(The yukata is wrapped around you and fastened with a single string, so if you sit with your legs apart...💦)

For those worried about their feet: measures to prevent geta

Although it's not an inner layer, don't forget to take precautions for your feet !

  • Women: Add lace tabi socks to reduce pain and make yourself look cuter!
  • Men: You can also pair it with sandals without overdoing it!
