We recommend a long half-width obi.
Hanhaba obi (half-width sashes) are all-rounders! Perfect for both kimonos and yukatas
Hello, this is Yukiwa❄
This might come out of the blue, but do you like hanhaba obi?
Personally, the hanhaba obi is my absolute favorite, and it’s the obi I use the most.
They are incredibly versatile sashes that can be paired with komon (fine-patterned) kimonos, tsumugi (pongee), unpatterned silk kimonos, and even yukatas!
The size of your hanhaba obi is surprisingly important!
Obi lengths are generally divided into two main categories: "standard size" and "long size."
However, I recommend checking the measurements a little more closely when choosing a hanhaba obi.
Choose your length based on how you want to tie it
Standard long hanhaba obi are usually about 380–400cm long.
With this length, you can create many different knots, such as the "Bunko," "Ribbon-gaeshi," and "Kichiya" styles.
But if your hanhaba obi is 430cm or longer...
You can even try your hand at more elaborate obi knots!
(A "sanju-kari-himo" triple-layer sash cord was used for the knot in the image.)

The material matters, too! Choose according to your needs
If you're only planning to wear it with a yukata, a lightweight polyester sash is perfectly fine.
But for those who want to pair them with kimonos as well, I recommend silk hanhaba obi.
Hakata-ori weaves, in particular, are breathable and easy to tie, making them great for both yukatas and kimonos.
As for other weaves, I think they’re fine as long as the atmosphere matches your overall look (← just my personal opinion!♪)
