Features and Condition of the Nagoya Obi | New Nagoya Obi
Recommended for casual occasions, this is a summer/hitoe Nagoya obi produced by Kuriyama Kobo.
With a gentle design featuring sarasa (chintz) patterns dyed onto a warm-toned white (milky white) background (referencing the Standard Dictionary of Japanese Colors).
This obi is crafted using genuine hemp.
There are some yellowish areas on the white fabric, but this is the natural texture of the organic material (it is not a stain or a defect).
It is a point-patterned obi, with purple and green tones incorporated into the otaiko (back drum) and front sections.
We recommend coordinating this with a simple kimono to make the obi the star of your outfit.
Please enjoy wearing it with solid-colored kimonos, komon, or tsumugi.
Founded in 1952, Kuriyama Kobo is a dyeing studio established by the first-generation Yoshisaburo Kuriyama. Fascinated by the traditional Okinawan stencil dyeing "Bingata," he created "Wazen Bingata" by fusing Bingata with Kyo-yuzen, a representative dyeing technique of Kyoto.
Works by Kuriyama Kobo are known as "Kuriyama Bingata."
At over 370 cm, it is made longer than a standard Nagoya obi.
It is tailored in the Nagoya style, so we encourage even beginners in kimono dressing to try it out.
