Nagoya Obi Features and Condition | New Nagoya Obi
This is a summer/unlined Nagoya obi made by Kuriyama Kobo, perfect for casual occasions.
An exotic design with Protea flowers, native to South Africa, dyed in a bright, clear blue-green (Hanarokushō-iro, as referenced in the Definitive Dictionary of Japanese Colors).
This obi is made using true hemp.
There are some slightly yellowed areas on the white background, but this is the natural texture of the natural fabric material (not a stain or defect).
This obi features a point pattern, with a blue and green gradation coloring the Otaiko (drum knot) and Maebara (front belly) sections.
We recommend pairing it with a simple kimono to make the obi the star of your outfit.
Please enjoy it with iromuji (solid-color kimonos), komon (small-pattern kimonos), or tsumugi (pongee kimonos).
Kuriyama Kobo was established in 1952. The first generation, Kishizaburo Kuriyama, was captivated by Okinawa's traditional stencil dyeing "Bingata" and created "Wazome Bingata," a dyeing studio that fuses Bingata with Kyoto's representative dyeing technique, "Kyo Yuzen."
The works of Kuriyama Kobo are known as "Kuriyama Bingata."
At over 370 cm, this obi is made longer than a typical Nagoya obi.
Since it is tailored in the Nagoya style, we highly encourage even beginners to try tying it.
