Features and Condition of Nagoya Obi | New Nagoya Obi
This is a summer and single-layer Nagoya obi from Kuriyama Kobo, recommended for casual occasions.
This item features a large Queen of the Night flower design on a bright gray background (reference: Teihon Wa no Iro Jiten).
The Queen of the Night flowers are drawn in white on the gray background throughout, but only the otaiko (back knot) and mae-bara (front abdomen) parts have points of purple and deep green, making it a point-patterned item.
This obi is made using real hemp.
There are some yellowish areas on the white background, but this is the natural texture of the natural fabric material (it is not a stain or defect).
We recommend coordinating it with a simple kimono to make the obi the star of the outfit.
Please enjoy it with iromuji (solid-color kimonos), komon (small-patterned kimonos), and tsumugi (pongee kimonos).
Kuriyama Kobo was established in 1952. The first generation, Yoshisaburo Kuriyama, was fascinated by Okinawa's traditional resist dyeing "Bingata" and created "Wazome Bingata," a dyeing workshop that merged Bingata with Kyoto's representative dyeing technique "Kyo-Yuzen."
Kuriyama Kobo's works are known as "Kuriyama Bingata."
At over 370 cm, it is made longer than a typical Nagoya obi.
Since it is tailored in the Nagoya style, we encourage even kimono dressing beginners to try it.
