Characteristics and Condition of Nagoya Obi | New Nagoya Obi
This Nagoya obi, crafted by Kuriyama Kobo, is perfect for casual occasions. It features a clean and elegant floral silhouette design on a subtly purplish bright gray (nibumurasaki-iro, or "dull purple," according to the standard Japanese Color Dictionary) ground. The tare-saki (hanging tip) is solid gray. This is a point-pattern obi, with floral motifs dyed in cool tones on both the otaiko (drum) and abdominal sections. It is tailored in the Nagoya style, using a firm chirimen fabric with a stiff interlining. Furthermore, at over 370 cm, it is longer than typical Nagoya obis. We recommend coordinating it with simple kimonos to make the obi the star of the outfit. Enjoy it with iromuji (solid-colored kimonos), komon (small-patterned kimonos), or tsumugi (pongee kimonos). Kuriyama Kobo was established in 1952. The first generation, Kisaburo Kuriyama, captivated by the traditional Okinawan stencil dyeing "Bingata," created a dyeing studio for "Wazome Bingata" by fusing Bingata with Kyoto's representative dye, "Kyo-Yuzen." Works from Kuriyama Kobo are known as "Kuriyama Bingata." The overall photograph is the closest representation of the color, but it may vary slightly depending on your device.
