This Nagoya obi, made by Kuriyama Kobo, is recommended for casual occasions.
A stylish obi with a large moonflower dyed on a beige (Tokyo white-brown) background (see the Definitive Japanese Color Dictionary).
The material is hemp, and the colorful, uplifting night cereus is perfect for the summer sunshine.
We recommend pairing it with a summer kimono with a simple pattern to make the obi the focal point of the outfit.
Kuriyama Koubou was established in 1952. The founder, Kuriyama Kichisaburo, was fascinated by Okinawa's traditional stencil dyeing technique, "Bingata," and started a dyeing studio called "Wasome Bingata" by fusing Bingata with "Kyoto Yuzen," a dyeing technique representative of Kyoto.
The works of Kuriyama Studio are called "Kuriyama Bingata."
Although it is a point pattern, the long patterned portion may also be one of the characteristics of Kuriyama Kobo.
It is made in the Nagoya style, so even beginners in kimono dressing can give it a try.
There are no visible stains or dirt, so it is perfectly wearable and can be reused.
