This Nagoya obi features an abstract floral pattern made with Sagara embroidery.
The Sagara embroidery technique involves pulling the thread from the back of the fabric and tying it into a knot. This process is repeated many times to create a pattern.
The process is very time-consuming and labor-intensive, but compared to other types of embroidery where the threads are raised, the threads are less likely to get caught and are therefore more durable than any other type of embroidery.
Instead of gold or silver threads, matte colored threads are used, giving the piece a three-dimensional look and a subdued beauty.
This Nagoya obi has a beautiful reddish brown color and its roughly knotted fabric, similar to tsumugi fabric, is very stylish.
Abstract floral patterns in gentle colors are painted on the drum pattern and on the belly area.
We recommend pairing it with plain-colored, small-patterned, or tsumugi kimonos. It can be worn with single-layered kimonos as well as lined kimonos.
We also recommend coordinating it with kimonos that have a plain look, scattered patterns, or simple stripes.
It is made in the Nagoya style, so it is recommended for both beginners and experienced kimono dressers who want to finish dressing quickly in a short amount of time.
There are no noticeable stains or dirt, so it is perfectly wearable and can be reused.
