Characteristics and condition of Fukuro Obi | Used and recycled Fukuro Obi
This product is a very rare obi made by Kuriyama Kobo and recommended for casual occasions.
The navy blue (kontetsu-iro) (see the Definitive Japanese Color Dictionary) background is dyed with attractive patterns from Kuriyama Studio, including flowers, grapes, and small birds, arranged in a kiribane style.
Kuriyama Koubou was established in 1952. The founder, Kuriyama Kichisaburo, was fascinated by Okinawa's traditional stencil dyeing technique, "Bingata," and started a dyeing studio called "Wasome Bingata" by fusing Bingata with "Kyoto Yuzen," a dyeing technique representative of Kyoto.
The works of Kuriyama Studio are called "Kuriyama Bingata."
Although it is a point pattern, the long patterned portion may also be one of the characteristics of Kuriyama Kobo.
What's unusual about this belt?
In fact, Kuriyama Kobo basically only makes Nagoya obi.
This product was made possible because the customer specifically requested to have a fukuro obi made.
If you like fukuro obi but have been interested in Kuriyama Kobo's obi, this might be the one for you.
Please wear it a lot, combining it with plain colors, small patterns, and tsumugi.
There are no visible stains or dirt, so it is perfectly suitable for reuse.
