This obi has a calm color scheme against a black background with a bamboo pattern accenting it, making it a luxurious and eye-catching obi.

This obi incorporates two techniques: mother-of-pearl and hikihaku.
Hikihaku is a technique in which gold and silver foil is layered onto washi paper that has been coated with lacquer to create a pattern.
This requires advanced techniques, as the fibers are cut into hair-thin strips and then woven into fabric while being pulled, making it one of the most difficult Nishijin-ori fabrics to weave.
Raden is a decorative technique that uses the lustrous mother-of-pearl of turban shells and other shellfish to pray for the prosperity of descendants. It is a symbol of a glorious future. Shells are also said to protect wealth, as they were used for currency.
These are made by cutting Japanese paper with mother-of-pearl pasted on it into thin strips and weaving them together instead of thread. Unlike the type that is simply pasted on, I think they provide a sense of security when worn.
