This Hama Chirimen/Kyoto Bingata Komon cloth features a striking bright yellow background and is made from 100% silk.
The background color is a vivid and warm yellow (dark egg color) (see the definitive Japanese color dictionary). It has a Saaya pattern.
The pattern has a cute and gentle feel, with seasonal flowers and pine, bamboo, and plum motifs scattered throughout, along with spools of thread, shuttles (a tool used in weaving), and bolts of cloth.
This attractive color scheme is unique to items made by Kuriyama Kobo, a long-established Kyoto Bingata manufacturer.
The fabric is Hama Chirimen.
The weft threads are tightly twisted to raise them between the warp threads, creating a embossed texture that gives the fabric a beautiful luster and a smooth feel.
Of course, it can be made into a small pattern kimono, but it also makes a lovely kimono for children or a haori coat.
The colour is closest to what you see in the overall photo, but it may look different depending on the device you are using.
