Characteristics and condition of Nagoya obi | New Nagoya obi
This product is an untailored Nagoya obi made by Kitade Yozaburo, a designer patronized by the Imperial Household, and is recommended for semi-formal occasions.
Kitade Yosaburo is a dyeing and weaving artist of Kyo-Yuzen, a traditional craft representative of Kyoto.
In addition to kimonos, Kitade Yosaburo's works also include obi belts and lighting. The obi belts are woven in Nishijin, Kyoto, with the outer and inner linings woven in a circular shape using the same thin thread. There are no seams at the selvedge, and they stretch on the bias, so they fit the body well and prevent the garment from becoming loose. Another unique feature is that even if they wrinkle after being tied, they can be easily restored by tapping them lightly to stretch them out.
The pattern of a mountain stream is woven into the gray (mercury-colored) background (see the Definitive Japanese Color Dictionary).
The clean monochrome pattern goes well with any kimono, and you can enjoy coordinating it with kimonos of a wide range of patterns and colors.
Please wear it with a tsukesage, plain-colored kimono, or small patterned kimono.
There are no visible stains or dirt, so it is perfectly wearable and can be reused.
