Although it is made of tsumugi fabric, it is a visiting kimono made of Ushiku tsumugi that can be worn on semi-formal occasions.
Registered as an intangible cultural property of Ishikawa Prefecture, Ushiku Tsumugi takes its name from the old place name (Ushiku Village) of Shiramine, Hakusan City. This is an area where sericulture is thriving, and at the time, people wove their own clothes from waste cocoons that were not sold on the market. Among these were "Tamamayu", which are made from two silkworms producing one cocoon. Ushiku Tsumugi is woven using these ball cocoons, which are stronger than regular cocoons and have excellent elasticity and stretchability. As two silkworms spin the thread, the thread is intricately entangled, making it extremely difficult to make the thread, and it is not easy to weave the thread, resulting in a kimono that is full of artisanal skill.
The pattern features distant mountains and floral motifs, and although the color scheme is subdued, it can be used in a variety of situations depending on how it is coordinated.
A pale-toned obi will give a calm impression, while a dark-toned obi will give a modern impression.
There is a small stain on the left sleeve, but it is still in good condition for reuse.
The colour is closest to what you see in the overall photo, but it may vary slightly depending on the device you are using.
