This furisode, created by craftsman Toshio Kojima, is decorated with Saga Nishiki, a now very rare fabric, and can be used for formal occasions such as ceremonies and parties.
This item has a through lining.
Saga Nishiki is a type of Nishiki woven using thin strips of gold and silver foil or lacquered Japanese paper as the warp threads and dyed silk threads as the weft threads.
It all began when the wife of the 9th lord of the Nabeshima clan of the Kashima domain was inspired by a bamboo ceiling and asked her aides if she could use it to make everyday items. In the early Meiji period, production of Saga Nishiki was temporarily suspended, but Okuma Shigenobu, a native of Saga Prefecture, was so sad to see it go that it was revived among the former nobility. Later, at the 1910 Japan-British Exhibition held in London, Okuma Shigenobu arranged for what had previously been called Kumi Nishiki and Kashima Nishiki to be exhibited under the name Saga Nishiki. This was praised as "the pinnacle of Japanese handicrafts" and became the catalyst for spreading its fame overseas.
The base color is a pale orange-tinged white that has been carefully dyed by artisans using the dyeing method, and the kimono is cut and layered in the shape of a floral pattern using Saga Nishiki and gold leaf processing, making it a very elegant kimono.
Pairing it with a gold or cream-colored obi will create a soft and gentle look, while pairing it with a silver or slightly darker obi will create a cool look.
There are stains on the collar and the inside of the right armpit, but it is still in good condition and can be worn as a reused item.
The overall color is closest to what you see in the photo, but it may vary slightly depending on the device you are using.
