●About kimono sizes

This page introduces the basic method of measuring kimono sizes and the corresponding chart for the "XS to 3XL" sizes available in our store. It explains the key points of the length, sleeve length, and width of the kimono, making it easy to understand even for those who are choosing a kimono for the first time.

About the height

How to measure body height

For women, the length should be the same as their height.

The length of a women's kimono is best the same as your height, and it is considered comfortable to wear a size that is within ±5cm of your height. This range can be expanded depending on how you dress it.

The best length for men is "height - 25cm"

The best length for a men's kimono is your height minus about 25cm. Also, unlike women's kimonos, they are worn without a hem, so I would like you to use this calculation method as a basis for finding the right kimono.

About sleeve length

How to measure sleeve length

"Sleeve length" refers to the length from the base of the neck to the wrist bone.

Generally, for formal kimonos such as Homongi and Tomesode, the sleeve length should be longer to cover the wrists for a more elegant look, while for casual kimonos such as Komon and Tsumugi, the sleeve length should be slightly shorter to allow for easier movement and prevent the cuffs from getting dirty.

The approximate tolerance is approximately ±2cm from your own sleeve length size.

About the width

How to measure body width

"Chest width" is the sum of the front and back widths. To find out your chest width, use the following formula:

Hip size ≒ Front width + (Back width x 2) + 13cm

Example: Front width 24cm, back width 28cm → 24 + (28×2) +13 = 93cm → Perfect fit for someone with hips 93cm

The tolerance range is about ±10cm, so there is more flexibility in sizing than with clothing.
