How do I care for Awa Shijira weave?

Hello, I'm Yukiwa!

Awa Shijira, an intangible cultural property of Tokushima Prefecture

It can be worn as a yukata and is also washable!

It looks very easy to use☆

So, that's it.

Try it on and see what happens next.

I thought it could be washed.

How do I do laundry? ? (゜_゜>)

Is there anyone out there who thinks that way?

This time,

Introducing how to wash Awa Shijira weave

That said, it's nothing too dramatic.

☆ Hand washing is the basic rule

A tub... I think there are many homes these days that don't have one.

After cleaning the sink, pour water or lukewarm water into it and dissolve the detergent.

"To wash kimonos, we recommend using a mild detergent for delicates."

I often hear that, but personally,

I think that if it can remove sweat, that's enough - no need for detergent.

Then quickly wash it.

If you use detergent, be sure to rinse it thoroughly.

☆If you have time, discipline it roughly!

Before washing, roughly baste (sew) the rounded parts of the collar and sleeves.

Recommended for preventing deformation.

(But I've never done it...

Kimono that can be cared for at home, without worrying too much about the details

I think one of the attractions is that you can enjoy it at your own pace.)

☆ Leave the light spin cycle to the washing machine.

Wrap the folded kimono in a bath towel etc.

Place it in a relatively tight-fitting laundry net and spin-dry lightly.

If you only have a large net, you can tie the ends together with rubber bands.

Please try to keep your kimono from moving around inside the net.

☆ Remove any wrinkles and dry in the shade immediately.

Once the drying is complete, gently pat the sleeves folded to remove any wrinkles.

On a pole or a clothes hanger (you can also use a long bath towel hanger)

Adjust the shape and dry in the shade.

If you stack them while they are wet, the colors may transfer.

It is important to dry it as quickly as possible.

When ironing...

Awa Shijira weaving is also known as "Awa Chijimi",

It is finished in a "shrinkage" style.

To avoid damaging the unique texture, do not spray with water when ironing.

Be sure to place a cloth over the surface and apply it lightly.

What do you think?

Don't you think it might actually be easier to maintain?

The water temperature is too high and it shrinks,

It's also common to experience "Oh no, the color has transferred."

Give it a try and build up your confidence in doing it yourself.
